2K Hires Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Response

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a distinct direction.

The president stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our fans.

The belief in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

His leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
