Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
